July Put a Different Mission in the Air

July brought an unexpected change to the rhythm at Skydive Colorado Springs. With firefighting crews operating from the Penrose airport in response to the Aspen Acres Fire, we stepped back to give emergency aviation the room it needed. We are grateful for our community’s patience and for everyone supporting the response.

What Happened in July: Adapting to Keep Flying

Earlier this month, increased airport activity connected to the Aspen Acres Fire response temporarily affected skydiving operations. The team has since secured an alternate landing area, allowing operations to continue as usual. Flights still depart from Fremont County Airport, and customers are transported back from the temporary landing area, located about a mile away.

World Skydiving Day also went ahead on July 11. Skydive Colorado Springs joined skydivers around the world in celebrating the sport and helping establish a new record of 31,075 jumps completed in one day.

The team remains in communication with fire crews and expects to resume landing at the airport within the next two weeks. Thank you to everyone who has been flexible and supportive while we continue making room for this important emergency response.
