Canopy Coaching with Heart – Izzy’s Wing Lands at Skydive Colorado Springs

On July 4th and 5th, the skies over Penrose, CO carried more than just the sound of parachutes cracking open — they echoed the spirit of mentorship, safety, and community. Skydive Colorado Springs had the honor of hosting Izzy’s Wing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing canopy skills through free, high-quality coaching inspired by the life and legacy of Izzy Bucsko.

Led by Stevie Simpson, the weekend offered licensed skydivers the rare opportunity to receive individualized canopy coaching at no cost, with focused, real-world guidance that pushed skill levels while honoring a deeply meaningful mission. From accuracy patterns to landing debriefs, every jump became a lesson — and every jumper, part of the legacy.

A Mission That Soars

Izzy’s Wing isn’t just about canopy skills — it’s about lifting others up. Founded by Izzy’s friends and family, the organization delivers safety-focused training, mentorship, and resources to skydivers across the country. Their presence at Skydive Colorado Springs brought that mission to life in the most fitting way: through a weekend of learning, laughter, and unforgettable landings.

Why It Mattered at SCS

Skydive Colorado Springs is built on a foundation of veteran experience, first-class training, and a deep respect for the sport. Hosting Izzy’s Wing aligned perfectly with our values. The coaching sessions helped jumpers sharpen their canopy skills, gain confidence, and develop better decision-making in flight — all in the stunning backdrop of Colorado’s Front Range. With 21 attendees, generous donations, and a ton of experience shared, the weekend became more than just an event — it became a milestone for everyone involved.

The weekend wrapped with a 4th of July BBQ, giving everyone a chance to share stories, reflect, and connect beyond the dropzone. It wasn’t just about the canopy work — it was about flying with purpose, together.
